However, we are now able to mine contextual information or ‘soft data’, such as social network data, that adds richer insights to those invisible interdependencies and web of connections that explain points of leverage, influential brokers of information and so on,” Chung explains. “ We should soon be able to see how project tools will be able to capture team dynamics and dependencies, which will be extremely useful for understanding project performance. The technology trends suggested all indicate individuals, teams and organisations will be more connected than ever, the rate of diffusion of information will be faster and the creation and maintenance of data will increase at an exponential rate. “Only proper planning, wisdom and exploitation of what and how to make sense of such connections, information and data optimally can yield benefits for project organisations. Like a double-edged sword, the growth in quality and quantity of technologies only sharpens and elongates the sword further.
