Project Manager : Project Manager Dec Jan 2012
www.aipm.com.au Project Manager 35 34 Project Manager Finding a balance While a child’s acceptance of a promise can be unconditional, a promise to deliver at work needs to be balanced. It should be made as part of a dialogue or negotiation, rather than imposed (e.g. you promise to do something if other things occur). Especially as by keeping a promise at work , many of us overlook the promises we make to family and friends. When was the last time you called a mate to cancel lunch, coffee or dinner because you had some work that needed finishing urgently? Last month? Last week? Today? And what about those promises to yourself, such as The New Year’s resolution to get to the gym at lunchtime which turns into a sandwich at your desk, eaten in one hand while typing with the other? We all want to do a good job but we can’t be true to ourselves, or our work , if we accept promises we can’t deliver on, these broken promises eventually lead to disappointment and loss of trust. So focus on delivering the right things well and provide clarity on what is realistic. This will enable more effective delivery of promises at work and home – even keeping the promise to go to the zoo. ••• « we all want todoagood job but we can’t be tRue to ouRselves oR ouR woRk if we accept pRomises we cannot deliveR on» General Insurance Brokers & Project Management Insurance Specialists AFS Licence No 240525 28 Magill Road, Norwood SA 5067 PO Box 596, Kent Town SA 5071 I Fax: 08 8362 3131 I Ph: 08 8362 7127 Email: email@example.com I www.perrymans.com INSURANCE At Perrymans we understand the insurance needs of today’s Project Manager.
