Project Manager : Project Manager Feb Mar 2014
10 Project Manager •AIPM NEWS CHAPTERS I hope all our Members had an enjoyable break over the festive season; 2014 will see a continuation of professional development initiatives and networking activities, with NSW hosting events in Sydney metro areas and Regional NSW, including YEPP, WIPM and PMO SIGs. e NSW Chapter Council is holding a strategic planning day in February, discussing the expansion of our Mentoring program, the introduction of a Volunteer program and the implementation of a Buddy program; we will also be planning for the NSW PMA A. I encourage you to enter this year's PMA A; last year we had a hugely successful year, with a number of our State award recipients also receiving awards at the National level. I'm very pleased to advise that the 2013 NSW Project of the Year, Qantas Domestic Network and Voice Project, went on to win the Telco/ IT Category at the Asia Paci c Federation of Project Management awards in New Delhi, India. I look for ward to seeing you at our events during 2014. Preparation for the National Conference to be held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on 13-15 October 2014 is well under way. e conference will be preceded by a YEPP event on 12 October. I would like to encourage all Queensland members to take the opportunity to attend the National Conference and the National PMA A Gala Dinner. e National Conference is the highlight of a busy year for Queensland. It will be strongly supported by an expanded regional events program. We are also planning YEPP and WIPM events for Brisbane, and are keen to talk to any regional coordinator interested in holding an event in their area. In response to feedback, we will be conducting events on di erent days of the week as well as the occasional breakfast for those who cannot attend after work. If you think you could assist us in organising a regional event or by assisting the Organising Committee for the 2014 National Conference, please do not hesitate to contact Chapter Coordinator Lorelei Broadbent. e wet season has retur ned with gusto to drench projects Territory-wide, only slightly dampening the aspirations of project managers. During 2014 the NT Chapter focus will be on the Ter ritory experience, providing members access to major projects and their project teams. We are embarking on a program to include remotely located project managers in the CPD events. To highlight the complex challenges presented in remote locations, we are adding a new perspective to this year's CPD event calendar by inviting project managers across the Ter ritory to present and share their experiences, successes, failures, the e ects of the changing commercial environment and the in uence of mega projects. We strongly encourage Northern Territory teams to enter the 2014 PMAA. e NT Chapter will be running an information session and will provide previous winners as mentors. To nd out more or to express an interest in being mentored, please contact Chapter Coordinator Heather-Anne Clark. With the barrage of negative publicity about job cuts and reduced budgets, it is easy to be pessimistic about the outlook. ere are reasons for optimism. e new Federal Government is looking to do more with less, and organisational change is the business of program and project management. A focus on infrastr ucture means capital works, again the business of PM. e ACT Government is also focused on raising standards in PM, with joint AIPM / ACT Government workshops and AIPM's participation in the ACT Industry Advisory Council. Our rst Forum in 2014 will see two ACT PMA A recipients from Customs and Border Protection talking about lessons learned from their projects. I encourage everyone to think about a project that could be a PMA A candidate in 2014. If you would like to enter the 2014 PMA A, contact Chapter Coordinator Ginette Miller so we can arrange support for your submission. » For more information about events in all states, visit the Events section of the AIPM website: www.aipm.com.au David Bryant ACT Chapter President Chris Mansfield NSW Chapter President Mark Patch QLD Chapter President Brett Walker NT Chapter President NOTICEBOARD » 11 MAR YEPP NETWORKING NOTICEBOARD » 19 MAR BRISBANE CPD EVENT » 8 APR BRISBANE CPD EVENT NOTICEBOARD »18MARPMOSIG » 25 MAR FORUM: P3M3 DATA » 27 MAR AIPM/IPAA BREAKFAST » 3 APR YEPP SIG: HOW TO RAISE CREDIBILITY IN WORKSHOPS NOTICEBOARD » 1 MAY FREE SITE VISIT: RDH
