Project Manager : Project Manager Apr May 2013
12 Project Manager apfpm AWARDS The apfpm runs annual project management recognition awards. The awards were celebrated in Hong Kong in 2011 and Indonesia in 2012, and are to be held in India in December this year. To enter the awards you must be a winner at the AIPM National Project Management Acheivement Awards. Winners of the AIPM PMAA will be considered for entry into the Asia Pacific Awards. Awards are across five categories: • Construction/Engineering • Telecommunications/ Information Technology • Organisation/Change Management • Humanitarian, Communi Service and/or Regional Development • Research in Project Management In early 2010, AIPM's past National President Bill Young led a small group of regional PM leaders in Hong Kong to form the Asia Pacific Federation of Project Management (apfpm). The apfpm is a not-for-profit federation of national independent project management associations. The AIPM continues to support the apfpm by acting as the organisations Secretariat with National Director of the AIPM, Trevor Alex being the apfpm Secretary. Since this time the apfpm has grown to include major member associations in India, China, Nepal, Japan, Mexico, Indonesia, US, Hong Kong, Peru, Canada, Singapore, Chile, South Korea, Philippines, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Australia. One of the primary aims of the apfpm is to help existing national project management associations in the Asia Pacific to effectively collaborate. Strengthening the project management competency and capacity across the region will ultimately result in a greater ability to deliver value across private and public sectors. NEW ASSOCIATIONS Another key initiative of the apfpm is to help countries in the Asia Pacific region that don't have their own Associations to form their own project management national bodies. The apfpm is currently working with countries in the Asia Pacific region on this endeavour. This key objective will eventually bring the benefits of project management professionalism to all economies in this region. CONFERENCES Over the past three years the apfpm has worked with its member associations to get involved with a number of international conferences. The most recent conference was jointly held with CMAK-International Construction Management Conference in Seoul, Korea in March 2013. The apfpm will continue to support the Member Associations with the next conference scheduled for India in December 2013, followed by China in 2014.
