Project Manager : Project Manager Feb Mar 2013
www.aipm.com.au Project Manager 11 e first of the year's popular Four o'clock Forums, addressing professional practice and development issues, is scheduled for 19 February. is month, the focus is on professional certification and marketplace e xpectations, timely topics with a new certification level about to be introduced and many project professionals considering career moves or further study. International Women's Day on 8 March will see Women in Project Management join with Women in Engineering and Women in Constr uction for a celebratory high tea and presentation by Candy Tymson, international author and coach on achieving in the workplace. Our regional events and SIG programs are also gearing up for the year so watch out for details, and start thinking about submitting for the 2013 PMA As. A presentation on writing a successful submission is r unning on 6 March. Now that the WA Councillors have had a few months to establish, develop and lead their respective portfolios, the benefits of good project management are now apparent. eir consistent efforts are ensuring the positive trend for a growing WA membership base, supported by well-executed events, structured special interest group meetings and a driven commitment to expand AIPM's presence in our great state. We have exciting, albeit hectic, times ahead with the AIPM National Conference 2013 looming, which is when I value Councillor assistance the most. I urge both individuals and organisations to submit entries to the WA PMAAs. Winners will proceed to the National Conference in Perth. ere is no greater recognition than to win a national award right in our very own backyard, so please get involved. e WA Chapter will host several workshops and provide guidance to develop entries, so there is no excuse not to enter. We finished 2012 with two e xcellent presentations. 'Leading Successful Projects in Health and Human Ser vices' was run with the assistance of the Department of Health and Human Services. A variety of projects were discussed, including the Royal Hobart Hospital redevelopment, antenatal ser vices for women in remote and rural areas, and the prediction of pandemic severity and response capabilities. Another event late last year saw project manager Bev Cummings present on 'Change Management for the People' and 'Capability Framework Project at Souther n Water'. is year, the Chapter will improve on its great 2012 initiatives by liaising with other states to identify speakers and topics of choice. A further initiative will be building our membership base by promoting services, support and benefits, including corporate membership. We will also promote our Student of the Year Awards program, represent AIPM at training events and encourage RegPM certification. AIPM NEWS CHAPTERS • e SA Chapter farewelled 2012 by hosting a networking event of more than 60 members and guests who enjoyed the night with live ja zz. We started 2013 by hosting Networking Drinks to welcome our members. We have started planning for the 2013 PMAAs and will hold a briefing session on how to put together a winning submission on 28 February. South Australia achieved three wins in the 2012 Awards, so start thinking about your 2013 project or individual submission for the Junecutoff . I thank our sponsors and partners, including UCL, ElectraNet, Uni SA, SA Water, e Sebel Playford, e Crowne Plaza, Fox Creek Wines, Clear Decisions, BAE Systems, SKM, Austraining International, Nova Systems, Adelaide City Council, Women in Technology, Women in Engineering and Epic Projects for their generosity and support. We look for ward to delivering a very infor mative and exciting 2013 Chapter events program.
