www.aipm.com.au Project Manager 41 KRC CORNER Find out how AIPM is contributing to the body of knowledge that informs project managers across Australia. Closing the knowledge gap The AIPM Knowledge and Research Council (KRC) has had a busy year. At the heart of the KRC's charter is the capture, development and dissemination of project management knowledge. This requires the pursuit of research and development of new concepts, and the publication of the results of such endeavours in formats and in locations that are accessible by the broader project management community. To ensure research improves project management practice, industry needs to engage with researchers as well. This not only ensures that the research is relevant, it also provides opportunities for industry to identify problems that need to be solved and also explore where models, frameworks or new insights can provide benefit. In order to achieve these goals, the KRC has kicked off a number of key initiatives: KRC Corner in Project Manager. This section of the magazine provides bite- sized snippets on a range of relevant topics to whet your appetite or challenge your way of thinking. We are also currently developing the first two books in a series of research monographs. These will feature new ideas and critical thinking from leading academics in the project management field. Connecting with the international community. We are engaging with leading thinkers and project management researchers from around the world thanks to our involvement in the Asia Pacific Federation for Project Management and the Inter national Project Management Association. Taking an inter national perspective allows for more opportunities for engagement between researchers and industry. Inviting thought leadership. We are currently in discussions with a number of international experts with a view to running a 'thought leaders' series of events in 2013. The year ahead is looking very positive with the results of much of the KRC's initial work coming to fruition. I'd like to thank the KRC members for their support and efforts during 2012. I'd also like to put the call out for potential KRC members. If you have an interest in research, would like to further our collective knowledge, or would like to share your thoughts on pushing the envelope of project management theory, I want to hear from you. ••• MICHAEL YOUNG AIPM KNOWLEDGE RESEARCH COUNCIL CHAIR HOW TO CONTRIBUTE If you want to pose any questions or have the KRC seek responses to any particular project management issue or challenge, please email the KRC Chair.
