According to Safe Work Australia, stress burnout “ .. . is the physiological and emotional responses that occur when people perceive an imbalance between their work demands and their capability and/or resources to meet these.” IS IT THE SAME AS NORMAL DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY? Anxiety and depression may form part of stress burnout, but they are just part of a number of symptoms of the burnout. Stress burnout is directly connected to the work environment, whereas depression often is not. WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS? They may vary, but include irritability, anger, tiredness, no energy or motivation, emotional, headaches, poor appetite and feeling overloaded. HOW DOES STRESS BURNOUT PROGRESS? There are five stages of burnout. In the first stage, it may present as feeling mostly positive but giving less time to yourself and relationships, and in stage five, where you are physically and mentally no longer able to cope.
