10 Project Manager •NEWS PMO Accreditation Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has achieved Project Managed Organisation (PMO) Accreditation. LAUREN GRANT, MANAGER OF CASA's Program Management branch, received the award on behalf of CASA at AIPM's ACT Chapter Project Management Achievement Awards (PMA A) on Friday 14 September. Although the actual assessment was conducted over the past twelve months, the whole journey to this stage evolved over a number of years. Since 2007, CASA has steadily built its project management capability, culminating in the for mation of the Program Management bra nch in 2010. e branch then gained approval from the CASA board and senior management to undertake PMO Certi cation. e accreditation is a benchmark, and the endorsement of the AIPM gives surety to inter nal and e xter nal stakeholders that CASA has appropriate structures, methodologies and training to consistently achieve successful project completion. It greatly assists in communicating the value of project management within the organisation to other departments and stakeholders, and that project management is a speci c skill, requiring trained and competent personnel. e accreditation supports CASA on the path of continuous improvement and means that CASA now has a project management framework that has been independently assessed and endorsed by AIPM. CASA was assessed against stringent criteria by an independent external AIPM assessor appointed by the AIPM, Lesley Bentley from Living Planit. At a high level there were eight recognition criteria: • Organisational leadership and innovation • Organisational strategic planning link • Organisational business results focus • Organisational customer and market focus • Organisational support processes • Data, information and knowledge availability • Human resource management alignment • Consistency of application of all PM functions CASA is now on the path of continuous professional development, as an organisation, and PMO Accreditation provides a point of reference for improving project processes and delivery and recognition of the skills and experience of its project managers and project teams.
