Project Manager : Project Manager April May 2012
“ In the last issue I asked: What is genuine project management experience? At our most recent forum, we had a real-life example – we lost power! no air- conditioning, no lighting, no projector ... you get the picture. My thanks to our members and guests, sponsor (uXC Consulting) and guest speaker dr Charlie Pellerin who all graciously allowed us to soldier on. everyone was entertained by Charlie’s presentation. It was a memorable event. If you couldn’t make it, you can read about his 4-d System for team and individual development at 4-dsystems.com, and don’t miss his feature in the next issue of Project Manager magazine. have you registered your eOI for the 2012 Project Management Achievement Awards (PMAA)? It’s simple. Go to the AIPM website to register online. Contact our PMAA Project Manager Pal Sadasivan at email@example.com for more information about submissions and sponsorship opportunities. Thanks to all who applied and were not successful this time around. The elections are in October this year and all positions will be vacated, including mine of Chapter President. Watch for the election announcement and request for nominees. expressions of interest (eOI) are coming in for the 2012 PMAA . See how to submit an eOI on the AIPM website at www.aipm.com. au/html/pmaa_portal.cfm. There are also guidelines for submissions, sponsorship opportunities and a list of last year ’s winners. The nSW Chapter will be holding a ‘how to win at PMAA’ event in May. An announcement will go out to you directly and be placed on the event calendar. We are planning to hold the event again at doltone house in Sydney as long as the price is right. “ What have you done recently that was innovative in the way you deliver your projects? There are multiple ways to deliver a successful project, so why do we tend to use the tried and tested? It could be fear, being ill informed, or time or budget constraints. every project offers the project manager and team the opportunity to be innovative because, remember, a project is ‘unique’. I challenge you to consider an innovative method that provides increased efficiency to deliver your project; a different method, process or procedure; or even ask different people to look at your project with a fresh set of eyes. each year the nT Chapter Council develops innovative responses to the member ’s requirements and requests. We consider what new events or activities members are requesting and how, when and where to deliver the service. AIPM’s Project Management Achievement Awards recognise and reward project managers for their innovation. have you sent in an entry yet? “ Our first Chapter CPd event for 2012, ‘The Planning naughty Corner ’, was extremely well attended and emphasised the importance of effectively unpacking and understanding the scope of your project. Then in March, we had a double-header CPd event kicked off by our ‘Project Management Achievement Awards (PMAA) information session’, assisting organisations considering entering submissions for the PMAA in 2012. The second act was a useful presentation about the effect that the harmonisation of Wh&S laws may have on projects and project managers. Our regional events have also commenced in Rockhampton and Mackay. If you know of a good speaker or want to hear about a specific subject, please contact events Coordinator Adrian earl at adrian.earl@ fortiorglobal.com. Once again I ask you to consider heralding your project successes by entering a submission into the PMAA in 2012. Submission guidelines are available on the AIPM website. ❰ACT❱ ❰NSW❱ Boyd McCarron ACT Chapter President Paul Campbell NSW Chapter President ❰NT❱ Paul Clark NT Chapter President ❰QLD❱ Peter Fowler QLD Chapter President NOtIceBOARD »18 APR MONTHLy FORUM »16 MAY MONTHLy FORUM »31 AUg NT CHAPTER PMAA • aIPM neWs ChaPters 12 Project Manager
